The work shown on these pages is done in the spirit of solidarity with the Maya people. Marilyn Anderson produces art and publications and co-directs the Pro Arte Maya educational project for Maya children in Guatemala.
Through the Pro Arte Maya project, Maya/Spanish coloring books and educational materials are distributed in Guatemala. The goal is to affirm and celebrate the cultural importance of their arts and crafts and to increase consciousness and knowledge among those reached by the work.
Marilyn Anderson is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.
Through her art and publications she seeks to educate the public about the cultural dimension of fair traded arts and crafts sold in the North America and elsewhere.

The Children’s Coloring Book »
Maya Arts and Crafts of Guatemala/ Artes y Artesanías Mayas de Guatemala (cover seen above) presents detailed drawings of Maya artisans; captions and introductory text for parents, teachers and children. Text and images address issues of tradition, creativity, self sufficiency and ecology.
Teacher’s Guides »
Kids and Fair Trade and Learning from the Maya. Both guides are designed to accompany the Coloring Book.
Block Prints »
A relief print series of Maya Artists and Artisans of Guatemala. The images show artists and artisans using clay, various fibers, leather, metal and other materials to make their traditional arts as they have done for millennia. For more about the print series, read the Artist’s Statement »
